Airbrushing
French ManicureVariations.
Lots
of you ring and ask me how to achieve a lot of the designs shown in the
newsletter over the past year. Lots
of the designs are very simple, they just look complicated!!
One example is the French Manicure variations.
You don’t even need a stencil for these designs, just white paint.
The designs shown here all follow the same rule: airbrush onto the
stencil and not the nails. The
nails can be painted any colour at all, the designs look equally good on a
French base or a strong colour. I
usually use OPI’s Hawaiian Orchid for a clean look.
The directions here are to achieve the design as a French manicure
variation as it’s easier to show in black and white.
Experiment with colours - use green, red and yellow for a tartan look.
- Either
airbrush or polish the nails with your chosen colour.
If you are using nail polish be sure to let this dry completely
before airbrushing.
- Using
a straight edged stencil or masking film mask the majority of the nail so
only the tip is exposed.
- Hold
the airbrush about 2-3cm’s from the masking/stencil and very gently spray
white onto the stencil until you see colour.
Once you see colour do not pull the trigger back for more paint, hold
it there.
- Carefully
spray towards the edge of the stencil until you start to see a strong white
line on the nail.
Spray along the edge of the stencil until you achieve the desired
shade. The
white will fade out leaving the tip of the nail showing the base colour.
- Re-position
the stencil/masking further down the nail so you have a stripe of base
colour showing and repeat the above procedure.
The previous white line will not be covered by the new colour as this
will be in the new faded area.
- Re-position
the stencil/masking as much as you want to creating criss cross designs, or
single direction designs.
