The best and worst of 1999

As always this time of year the best and worst, in and out, good buy and bad buy lists are out, here’s mine…..

Best

Large size Northern Lights Hologram Top Coat – I’d seen this advertised in the US magazines for months and months.  Designer Nails only did the small bottles and I got through about 1 a week.  I almost choked when I saw they had the huge bottles recently and had not advertised it.  I thank you Designer Nails!!!

OPI Lipstick and Lip Liner – They really do match exactly, and the lippy really stays on!

Nail Tech Message Board (www.beautytech.com) – Found in January while taking advantage of a free internet system.  Logged on for real in April and never looked back.  A wealth of information from all over the world.  If you have the internet you must mark it as a favourite.

Media coverage – Natural nail care is finally being taken seriously as part of the regular beauty regime.

NSI Airshield – It really does what it says, dries to a hard shiney finish in 3 minutes.  Perfect for using when airbrushing over polish.  No more waiting 20 minutes before laying a stencil on the nail!!

Worst

‘Webbing’ – I’d like to know how anyone can get away with selling a teeny weeny piece of lace fixed in cardboard and passing it off as an airbrush accessory!

Airbrush paint you have to dilute yourself – We don’t have the time.  Enough said!

Coloured acrylic – I bought a tube for an astronomical amount of money and never used it!

Black and dark red nail polish – Hot in the Autumn and Winter.  How many of us had clients who’d polished their own nails with these colours without a base coat and wanted a perfect clear back-fill or re-balance!!!

Media coverageWHY are they still saying nail extensions are bad for your nails?  Will any of the writers actually get their nails done by a tech who isn’t so natural nail focused?
