This Months Nail Tech is……

Suzanne Purser

Suzanne has set up a message board club on the internet.  Aimed at UK nail techs so we can share our wealth of knowledge and interest on the subject of nails.  The site also features a nail art gallery and if you have access to a scanner or digital camera you may add your photos of nail art you have created.  You can access the site at http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/nailtechuk

What made you decide on a career in nails and when did you start?  I started doing nails when I was sixteen after I paid for my mum to have her bitten nails done. I was always interested in doing nails and I have been doing them now for fifteen years.

What environment do you work in?  I work in a very, busy modern hair salon. It is recently opened and I work part time.

What services do you offer and which systems do you use?  I offer a full service nails list. I mainly do acrylics but offer the other systems if required. I also do manicures and some basic hand painted nail art.  Also I do private training and am in the process of getting a free helpline organised.

How many clients do you see per week? Part time as now, about 20. Full time I would see about 45-50

What part of your job do you enjoy most and why?  I enjoy the buzz of being busy and watching my regulars interact with each other.  It’s a lovely, cheery atmosphere to work in and not many professions offer that.

How do you advertise?  Mostly through word of mouth although I am full to capacity because of cutting down my hours.

What is your most popular nailart request & what is your favourite piece of nail art? Luckily mine are one and the same as my favourite is leopard print and my most requested I suppose because I wear it quite often. I have always been an animal print junkie.

What is the weirdest request you have had for any nail service?  A very normal, masculine man who stood in his jeans and jumper sporting his new two inch long, Curved, scarlet nails decorated with diamantes.

If you could have your dream come true in the nail world what would it be and why?  This is a difficult one but think I would love people to sometimes sit on our side and get some appreciation for what our job entails. A lot of knowledge, prep and research goes into us doing our job well and this is usually overlooked.

Tip to pass on to other nail techs? Never stop learning - whether this involves courses, reading, attending exhibitions or just communicating with other techs.

UK/English Nail Tech's

Hi there, my name is Julie Belverstone and I am based in Essex, Canvey Island, England. I was wondering if any UK/English nail techs would like to get to know all the other UK/English nail tech's. I have found that there are so many US nail tech's about on the internet I feel a little alone.  I think it will be a great idea to meet new people that has the same interest as you - nails & beauty.  It could even mean that we could all meet up at sometime also go and see each others workplaces etc.

If you like the sound of this please e-mail me at jbelvers@hotmail.com or call me on 01268 694660 or 07803 173285.  I will collate all the e-mails and calls and get a dist list set-up where it's just UK/English nail techs.

Are you having a Millennium promotion?  If you are and would like to share your thoughts or ideas with everyone please contact me by fax, phone or e mail.  If you take photos  at your promotion and would like them included in the January or February issue please send copies or original with negative to be returned to you.
