What’s the weirdest place….

….You’ve ever done a set of nails?

I once did a set on the kitchen table of a pub, with chilli sauce brewing in the background and onions being chopped right next to me. It wasn't pleasant but the only room she had, and she wanted it.

I put this question up on the nail tech message board over the internet.  I had some odd replies…….  If you have a wierdest place story…. Tell me by e mail, fax, phone or post.  I’ll print them as they come in.

·                                 I have two clients (sisters) who I usually do on the same night, I arrived at the house and sister 2 got there and had no key so we had to climb over a wall and in through the back door sans kit and table! We set up in the dining room as the natural light is better in there and did her set, sister 1 arrived at 5.30 for her set and the light was starting to go, we didn't start off in the lounge as all the bulbs had gone and they bought the wrong ones to replace to used ones, the dining room had no light fitting at all and I only had my small lamp, so I suggested that we move to the kitchen, surprise surprise the bulbs had gone there too! So I finished by torch light with a large Rotwieller at my feet letting off rather nasty smells! Needless to say it took ages as we had to keep moving the lights around to see each nail! Amazingly they were all fine and her in-fills were done in the lounge with new bulbs! I made her promise that there would be lights for my next visit!! this time the Rotwieller behaved splendidly and the parrot carried on uttering his favourite phrases, most of which are not printable on this site!   Jane ‘Finky Fingers’ Barinov – Southampton, UK

·                                 I was putting a full set on a friend while at a holiday boat parade. We were sitting on the bow of a large boat in the dark with a security guard shining his mini mag flash light on us so we could see!    NailDzyner (Suzie) – USA

·                                 I once did a repair for a bride to be in the limo on the way to the church. Thank God that limo had a smooth ride! :)    Karen M -  USA

·                                 Mine was at this woman's house on the ironing board with an 18 month old child sitting on the end of the ironing board & her 4 year old practically swinging round my neck playing the glue & scissors. The woman said 'I don't believe in disciplining my children!!!! Natalie Holder – West Sussex, UK

EXTREME

A new liquid and powder system has arrived on the market, with some very temptimg claims to the product.  Eileen Finn from Mersey has been using the system and shares her thoughts……

Although this "revolutionary" new system from Backscratchers utilized liquid and powder, it is an entirely different method of creating acrylic nail extensions.  The manufacturers promise that a full set can be completed within thirty minutes and I have found this to be true.

Following the usual prep stages, the nails are coated with a base glaze, which is also used to adhere the nail tips.  There are three types of tip to choose from.  Samples of these are included in the Deluxe kit which costs 51.00, and contains enough product to complete 18 - 20 full sets.  When tips have been shortened and shaped, finish glaze is brushed over the entire area and the finger is dipped into the tub of glaze powder.  Another coat of finish glaze is brushed onto the powdered nail and activated with glaze dryer.  All that remains now is filing and buffing, which is minimal.

One drawback which was immediately apparent was that pink & whites would not be possible with Extreme.  However, Backscratchers have now added these powders to the range, along with a French white form which should make for easy backfills on French white tips and also perfectly shaped smile lines.  These products should be available in the UK within the next few weeks.

Although these extensions do not appear to be as resilient as regular acrylic they are certainly good for clients who are not rough on their nails.  For those who are there is the option of reinforcing the extension with fibreglass or silk.  Application is very easy, and the thirty minute full set time will be an attractive prospect for many technicians and also clients who are pushed for time.  I have done nine sets and five 2 week fills with Extreme, and as yet have experienced no problems to speak of.  All nine clients have remarked upon how much they like the "lightness" and pretty appearance of their nails using this system, and say that they wish to continue with it for the time being.  I do not think I will ever use it exclusively, but as an alternative to regular acrylic and fibreglass nails, it certainly has the potential to be a lasting success.
