BEAUTY SHOWS – UPDATE

You may remember that last month I was having a bit of a moan about the beauty shows and the nail exhibitors not standing together.   Well word got around, and I received a call from Steve James from the Hair and Beauty Group, organisers of the Brighton Show.  I now have an explanation for you all as to why the nail exhibitors are set apart from each other.  In the past the show organisers have considered putting nail exhibitors into the same area, although the exhibitors believe that there are ‘good spots’ and ‘bad spots’ at the shows.   They get used to the positioning they have had in the past and believe we know where they are and we go straight to them.  Although a lot of us know that this isn’t actually the case. But if exhibitors don’t know what we want how will they know to give it to us?   The nail companies and show organisers need and want to hear our opinions and ideas when it comes to placing exhibitors at the shows.  So there you have it, if you would like to see nail exhibitors stand together in future shows get in touch with the various nail companies and let them know.  Steve and his crew will again be attempting to put the nail exhibitors together next year.

Thanks, Steve for getting in touch and letting us know the deal

"Do you do feet?"  Oh, dear!

During the Summer months I tend to sell quite a lot of toe rings and pearly, pale nail polishes for toes.  Once clients see I sell these items they then ask me if I do pedicures.  I used to, until I got fed up with people who tended to think that a pedicure includes washing their feet.  So I stopped offering the service.  I used regular foot soak, nothing special, smelt of peppermint and a foot lotion to massage the feet and then filed and painted the toe nails.

Summer is almost here again and I’m being asked the same question.  Now I’m having a re-think.  I recently bought a spa pedicure kit from Creative.  It was intentionally to use on myself but when I tried it it was so wonderful (and you know how hard it is to give yourself a good pedicure) I felt guilty keeping it to myself.  I decided to go ahead and offer the service.

But I started thinking back to a couple of years ago; what if the client doesn’t have feet as clean as I would prefer when I start the pedicure.  Over the last year or so I’ve gained a lot more confidence in myself as my clientelle has built up.  I will be asking clients to ensure their feet are clean before them come for the pedicure.  Obviously I don’t want to just come out with ‘please wash your feet before your come’!  I intend to produce an information sheet about the pedicure, letting them know each aspect of the service, the foot soak, the masque etc.  included in the sheet will be what they need to do before the service.  They will need to have clean feet with no nail polish on the toe nails, and all foot/ankle jewellery removed.  I am hoping that if worded subtly enough they will take the hint.   If not I will have the soak ready quickly any way!  I can only give it another go and see what happens.

If you have not tried the spa pedicure try it now, it’s beautiful.
