THE ALL THINGS NAILS GUIDE TO SHOW SURVIVAL

Next month is the nail show at Olympia, London.  If you’ve never been before you will never have seen anything like it.  Stands everywhere tempting us with bargains, buy two get one free, sign up now etc, etc.  Be warned, it is very easy to go completely over your budget.  If you are a seasoned show go-er you will know what to expect and be prepared, if you’ve not then here is my guide to show survival….

Before you go:

v      Write a list of essentials that you know you need.  Essentials are acrylic powder, files, hand creams etc things that if you didn’t have you couldn’t work.

v      Consider whether it’s worth buying big, bulky items like gallon bottles of nail varnish remover, acetone etc.  Remember you will have to carry it home.

v      If you have an account with a supplier, consider the pros and cons of buying from them at the show.  You know their products and can order anytime, without fighting your way through the crowds around the stand.  If their delivery charge is small it might be worth ordering when you get home.

v      Prepare your most comfortable shoes!!  Heels and new shoes are a complete no-no.  Relax, you’re not going to a fashion show (as my mum used to say!)  you need to be comfortable.

When you get there:

v      Get a show guide and mark the stands you need to visit for your essentials.  Visit these stands first and buy your essentials before you look at anything else.

v      Once you have your essentials take them to the cloak room and leave them or put them in your car.  This leaves you with free hands making it easier to look around properly.

v      If you see something you like but are not quite sure put a mark against the stand in the guide then go back later or ask for a mail order brochure.  Buying a new product or system on impulse is never a good idea.

v      Keep you eye out for bargains.  Nail art stands like K-Sa-Ra and Ritchina always have special deals.

If you are with a friend make sure you have a meeting point in case you lose each other, mobile phones don’t always work in the buildings.
